Championed by distinguished diplomat and former U.S. ambassador Barbara Stephenson, currently Vice Provost for Global Affairs at UNC-Chapel Hill, and formerly American Consul General in Belfast, the visit sought to strengthen and develop activities which promote the global outreach, impact, and reputation of both institutions.

Following the visit, Professor Coulter, Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience, said:

“The enthusiasm exhibited by UNC staff, the excellent research infrastructure, and the obvious synergies between our research groups will undoubtedly lead to a truly impactful partnership.”

During their two-day visit, Dr McErlean and Professor Coulter met with several faculty teams, identifying research collaborations which may considerably benefit from each institutions’ research strengths. Discussions addressed collaborations related to the development of solutions linked to key global health challenges, benefitting from the utilisation of unique departmental technologies and methodologies.
