My research explores journalism and media effects on public opinion, examining agenda-setting, framing in crises, and political communication through content analysis, network analysis and laboratory experiments. My research also examines election coverage on Instagram, emphasising visual framing. I also focus on climate change communication, I explore how framing shapes emotions in public debates, analysing visual and textual coverage. Additionally, I investigate how women athletes are visually framed by the media and how they self-present on Instagram. These studies take place in multiple country contexts and settings such as Turkey, the UK and the US.

Public outreach & key achievements

With six years in the media industry in the UK and Turkey and 14 years in academia, I bridge theory and practice in journalism and media studies. I have published in top-tier journals, including Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Communications, Visual Studies, and Visual Communication.

As the solo & Principal Investigator, I secured a prestigious ~$40,000 research grant from TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey).

I have led/co-led seven interdisciplinary projects on media, climate change, and social media. From January 2023 to October 2024, I served as Chair of ECREA’s Women's Network. I have also made media appearances and written policy briefs related to my expertise.
