Mark's research focuses on markets, institutions and technology:

  • How new (clean renewable) technologies emerge, industrial market systems transition and policy develops.
  • Net zero, energy transition, AI and digital technology interfaces.
  • The social practice of technology through concepts such as institutional entrepreneurship, green growth market-making, ESG tools, policy-making, business model innovation, institutional leadership and work, new product introductions, R&D and RD&D as the basis of technology and market emergence.

Any social science background, e.g. business and management subject, law, sociology and social psychology, economic geography, geology and environmental science.

Public outreach & key achievements

Industry and government engagement work has resulted in applied research with the RD&D GenComm project, the GeoenergyNI RD&D project, Ionic Technologies and also applied outputs, including commissioned research for the NI Department for the Economy.
