Dr Devon Ramey

School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work

Dr. Ramey’s research focuses on improving the quality of life and self-determination of autistic individuals. She is particularly interested in how indices of happiness and unhappiness can be used as quality of life measures for this population. She is also interested in supporting autistic learners with technology-based interventions.

Recently, Dr. Ramey was the principal investigator for a SCoTENS-funded co-participatory research project that focused on improving IEP goals for autistic learners and the autism-related terminology used in Irish educational settings.

Public outreach & key achievements

In August 2024, Dr. Ramey was the winner of the Cogniss Innovation Challenge. Cogniss is a no-code platform for patient and consumer-facing digital health apps. As the winner of the competition, Dr. Ramey is developing an app to teach social and emotional learning (SEL) skills to young autistic children.

Dr. Ramey is an Editorial Board Member for Advances in Neurodevelopmental Disorders and is a Peer Review College Member for the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Her research has been published in high-impact and respected journals and she has been invited to act as a peer reviewer for several key journals in her field. Dr. Ramey serves as an external expert on the MScABA course advisory board for Trinity College Dublin.
